Subspecies, varieties, forms and cultivars of plants belonging to the Copiapoa calderana group

  • Copiapoa calderana F.Ritter: Usually solitary or slowly clumping columnar cactus with dull greenish or greyish-green, not pruinose stems; Apex densely woolly. The spines hick reddish brown to black. Distribution: Caldera and adjacent areas.
  • Copiapoa calderana subs. atacamensis (Middled.) Doweld: has very spiny stems either solitary or branched. It may forms massive clumps consisting of many heads. Distribution: between Paposo and Cerro Moreno.
  • Copiapoa calderana f. cristata hort.: Crested form. Garden origin (Nursery produced cultivar)
  • Copiapoa calderana var. spinosior F.Ritter
  • Copiapoa lembckei Backeb.: (same as: Copiapoa calderana) In habitat it forms clusters of stems covered by a whitish grey bloom. Distribution: North of Caldera.
  • Copiapoa lembckei var. magnifica Kníže: has pale grey-green stems, with usually black to grey black spines. Distribution: Caldera.
