  • Agave sobria Brandegee: It has longer 50-80 cm, quite narrow leaves with entire to moderately undulate and thoothed margins. It has a wide elevational range in the Sierra Giganta.
  • Agave sobria subs. frailensis Gentry: has smaller leaves (20-30 cm long 3-5 times longer than wide), with more closely spaced, smaller teeth borne on undulate margins. Origin: It is a narrowly endemic taxon found on volcanic hills NW of Punta Frailes
  • Agave sobria subs. roseana (Trel.) Gentry: has openly spreading 35-50 cm long leaves, frequently twisted, and bear large widely spaced teeth on mammillate projections. Origin: It is found in more arid communities in Espiritu Santo and the adjacent peninsula NE and E of La Paz.
