Origin and Habitat: South-western Alps, astride the French (in the valley of the Roya, Mercantour) and Italian border (Maritime and Ligurian Alps).
Altitude range: 200 to 1900 meters above sea level.
Habitat and ecology: Saxifraga cochlearisSN|34594]]SN|34594]] grows in extremely localized populations in montane and subalpine climates, usually nested in crevices on sunny or shady limestone cliffs.
